A promotional cookie was included in press kits for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in 2004. It was a white, round cookie with the game's logo printed in the middle and covered with small black rocks, which are possibly crystallized sugar or another candy. Its flavor is unknown, as is who baked them. One of these cookies, still in its wrapper, was placed up for auction on eBay for $129.99 USD in 2011, although by that point it is reasonable to assume that this cookie was no longer edible, and no other such cookies have surfaced online.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes began development as a proposal from Retro Studios level designer Tony Giovannini, pitched right after the release of Metroid Prime. Dubbed "Metroid 1.5", the pitch entailed a far different game involving Samus being abducted by a massive alien spaceship out to conquer the galaxy and battling a schizophrenic AI, and far more detailed multiplayer.

One of the early tech demos for the Wii in 2005 was a re-tooled version of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It was the most advanced of the 8 available demos and was the only game to incorporate the Nunchuk. It took one developer two months to complete the demo for the Tokyo Game Show. The game would later be fully ported to the Wii in 2009.
