In the manual for Rocko's Modern Life: Spunky's Dangerous Day, it is mentioned that Spunky is idiotic because a TV set dropped on his head when he was a puppy. This is not mentioned in any episode of Rocko's Modern Life, but is a reference to a real-life incident from Rocko creator Joe Murray's childhood, which is also referenced in the series' opening titles.
