The name of Abe's species, Mudokons, is based off the continent they are native to and the main setting of the series, Mudos. The name "Mudos" is a tweaked version of the word "Modos", which is an anagram for "Sodom", a city that has been mentioned in various Religious Texts, like the Bible and the Quran.

Abe was named after Abraham from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. Abe also receives a message from his Ancestors, much like how Abraham receives a message from God, both of which involve putting an end to slavery.
