Animal Crossing: New Leaf
1
Normally, when the player decides to build a public works project, Isabelle will prevent the player from going to the beach while scouting out a potential site due to the instability of the sand there. However, if the player uses cheats or glitches to bring Isabelle to the beach and then talks to her, she will give them the option to state whether or not they want to start construction. Despite this, she will deny the request anyway if the player answers yes; however, she will not cite the quality of the ground, but rather will state that there is no available space. Depending on where they are standing, she will state that the proposed site is either too close to the ocean or too close to the cliff, statements which do not otherwise come up in normal gameplay. This dialogue implies that building public works projects on the beach was considered at one point in development.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
2
Attachment Shortly after the game's release in 2020, the government of China ordered gray market online storefronts to stop selling the game. While no official reason was given for the ban, fans and analysts speculated that it was due to players in Hong Kong using the game's customization features and online connectivity to broadcast messages in support of protests that were occurring at the time against changes to the region's extradition laws. Around the same time, the game was also used by Joe Biden's campaign team to advertise his candidacy in the 2020 United States presidential election by creating a dedicated island and customizable items.

16 days after the election in November, Nintendo updated the game's Usage Guidelines for Businesses and Organizations, significantly narrowing how they could use the game for advertising. This included a rule requesting that offensive content be refrained from being created in-game, along with a statement asking to "refrain from bringing politics into the Game." However, this rule does not clarify what "politics" specifically Nintendo wanted to keep out of the game, and it appears to be in effect for any content created after the update, as it seems that none of the Hong Kong protest content or the Biden campaign's promotional content were taken down.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
1
Attachment Normally, the player is required to defeat the MERV enemies in "Welcome to Planktopolis... Minions" either with the Sonic Wave Guitar or by deflecting their missiles with the upgraded Karate Spin. However, they can also be attacked by walking directly underneath them, which deactivates their lasers and allows SpongeBob to hit them with the Bash. This typically goes unnoticed in normal gameplay, as MERVs' lasers try to repel the player if they get too close; additionally, the Mini-MERV enemies encountered earlier in "Shell City, Dead Ahead" instantly repel the player if they get even closer, meaning that there would be no opportunity to discover this alternate strategy in advance.

The Joy of Creation: Ignited Collection
1
On March 25, 2024, Nikson revealed that the game's title was being changed from "The Joy of Creation: Ignited Collection" to "THE JOY OF CREATION". This meant the game was no longer a bundle, but drawing inspiration from the original Story Mode and Reborn titles to make THE JOY OF CREATION its own game in the series. Nikson claimed that the first title never fully resonated with him after deciding against including the Classic mode as a part of the games to remake. He made the change to emphasize that it was an entirely new project re-imagining elements of earlier games in the series instead of a remaster or update, which he felt did not quite capture the essence of the game.
Palworld
2
During Palworld's development, Pocket Pair hired over forty additional employees on a budget of one billion yen. Some of the staff hired notably came about under varied circumstances. For example, the character animator (despite having no prior industry experience) was hired by Takuro Mizobe after seeing his works on YouTube, where he posted combat animation videos and fan content based on the game Girls' Frontline as a hobbyist animator. Likewise, the director applied for the role during a Twitter recruitment run despite already lining up for a position at NetEase at the time. Finally, the main character designer for the game's Pals was initially rejected during a separate recruitment drive dedicated to finding illustrators that occurred in October 2020, but was ultimately hired after reapplying in February 2021.
L.O.L.: Lack of Love
2
The game's concept was born out of a series of emails between writer Kenichi Nishi and Japanese electronic/classical musician Ryuichi Sakamoto regarding the Gaia hypothesis, a proposed ecological model by James Lovelock which claims that life on Earth exists as a self-sufficient network of mutualistic relationships.

Sakamoto devised the game's scenario from these conversations, with Nishi developing them into the game's plot. Sakamoto additionally provided the game's soundtrack, composing thirteen songs using methods designed to compliment the naturalistic setting and enigmatic presentation.

Super Princess Peach
1
Within the game's data are sprites for Glad and Calm Goombas; the final game only features regular, Mad, and Sad varieties. Of note is that the Calm Goombas' sprites depict them with a pastel green palette, whereas the final game only differentiates Calm enemies from regular ones by having them stay asleep until provoked. Both unused Goomba types also feature a considerably different art style compared to the final game, indicating that the removal of color coordination for the Calm vibe occurred at around the same time as the overhaul in the game's aesthetics.
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
1
Attachment In an interview with the developers at Blue Tongue, they mentioned several buildings they wanted to include in this game, but had to drop due to design decisions or memory constraints on home consoles:

•Hotels, which would provide extra accommodation for guests.
•Dino-Vet Station, which would have been vital for keeping dinosaurs healthy.
•Hunting Platforms, which would let visitors hunt down carnivores in the park from afar.

X
2
Attachment X was originally pitched under the name Eclipse and was developed under the title Lunar Chase. The single-letter rename came at the request of Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi, who contacted director Yoshio Sakamoto early in the morning after playing the game.

The Lunar Chase name was retained for a planned English localization of the game, which was ultimately scrapped due to fears from Nintendo of America that international players would find the game's presentation and design too complex for a handheld title. Creator and programmer Dylan Cuthbert additionally blamed the cancellation on a presumed lack of interest from retailers in the United States. A prototype of the English version would eventually surface in 2020 as part of the Gigaleak, a massive leak of internal server data from Nintendo. The Eclipse pitch, meanwhile, was released to the public by the Video Game History foundation three years later.

Star Fox 64 3D
1
Attachment Star Fox 64 3D features an entirely new battle multiplayer mode unique from the battle mode found in the original Star Fox 64, where up to 4 players can play a local multiplayer match via Download Play (or alternatively, battle against CPU opponents). However, the game did not support online play.

Nintendo's Yusuke Amano explained in an interview in 2011 that the game's battle mode did not support online play due to both cost and time constraints, with the developers deciding to prioritize the 3D visuals, as the point of the project was to use Star Fox to provide users with a game that showed the capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS as quickly as possible:

"Personally, I play a lot of online FPS games," began Amano. "This leads me to think that just making multiplayer parts of existing games playable online isn't enough to create a satisfying experience for users. The popular online games work in lots of things, so they play well online - and if we wanted to satisfy everyone who bought the game, the costs required for including online support would be vast.

For this project what we needed to do was use Star Fox to provide users with a game that shows the appeal of Nintendo 3DS as quickly as possible. We put a lot of effort into the graphics, and if we had included online support then we couldn't have reached this level in the time allowed."
Death Stranding
2
Keanu Reeves was originally intended to portray Cliff, but in the end Mads Mikkelsen was chosen for the role instead.
Death Stranding

1
On April 8th, 2022 (the American release date for the film "Sonic the Hedgehog 2"), former Archie Comics writer Ken Penders revealed that he was contacting his legal team in regards to the Echidnas and their backstory featured in the film. According to Penders, both Knuckles' unnamed father and the workings of the film's depiction of the Master Emerald were derivitive of two of his characters, Locke and Enerjak. Despite the fact that the powers of the game version of the Master Emerald had been established back in 1994 with the release of Sonic & Knuckles, Penders has claimed to have legal ownership over the ideas he created in 1996. However, as of March 2024, no lawsuit has materialized.

Attachment At some point, forest fires were one of the many disasters that could occur in the player's parks. There was also a Sprinkler System that was planned as an upgrade for structures in-game that would have been used to mitigate the aforementioned forest fires. All of this would be removed in the final game.
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
1
In 2012, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was ported to the PlayStation 3's PlayStation Network under the PlayStation 2 Classics line. However, it was taken down shortly afterwards with no official explanation. Audiences quickly inferred that the port's withdrawal was due to the poor reception it drew thanks to various emulation issues involved with it, though it may have also been due to THQ going bankrupt and Activision acquiring the license to make games based on Nickelodeon properties around the same time. Among these emulation issues, the 16:9 display (which was the default option) stretched the game rather than properly re-rendering it at a higher aspect ratio, the audio for in-engine cutscenes frequently stuttered and fell behind by up to a second, certain textures were noticeably blurry due to the game being displayed at a higher resolution than what it was designed for, and gameplay suffered from prominent input lag compared to the original release.

Platform: ZX Spectrum
1
The ZX Spectrum is more widely remembered today as a video game console rather than its originally intended purpose as an affordable computer for word processing and real-world problem-solving. Hardware creator Sir Clive Sinclair reportedly considered games to be "fundamentally unserious" and was horrified that the computer he invented was becoming primarily seen as a gaming platform.
