The runes that appear in the magic circle every time Serenity uses the Demons' Score read "Tu Fui, Ego Eris." It is Latin for "I was you; you will be me." The runes under her read "Mors Tua, Vita Mea" which is also Latin for "Your loss is my gain."

Right that's that over with.
Firstly.... For those who might possibly be interested, rather than those who just want to hack the program to bits....
Sega wouldn't let us have ANY credits on the game, so I thought we might as well put some here.
I (Richard Aplin) wrote the Amiga and ST versions (though at the time of writing - 12th Nov.1990 - I haven't started the ST conversion yet!) I much prefer the Amiga (doesn't anyone?) so I have done that version first, using all the extra hardware, then i'm going to bang out the ST version when necessary.
"Uncle Art" (actually a limited company!) did the (not very good) music. - Oh yeah.. Apologies and sympathy to Uncle Tom (the person!) for the fuck up with his amazing Double Dragon II music!
The bitmap graphics were grabbed from the arcade PCB video output by Andy Heike and Nick Vincent with the colour frame grabber, and the sprites were read, decoded and converted from the arcade machine's Eproms by me. (Not a bit of bloody help from Sega either!) They were remapped from 21 million to 16 colours by Andy Heike, Nick Vincent, and some students in Manchester.
I sampled the sound effects from the PCB's sound chip (not very hard at all!)
Tiertex wrote the protection check code (which is utter shit - well on form for Tiertex!)
Steve Fitton and Tony Porter from U.S. Gold provided all the nagging and hassle which was most unwelcome, but kind of expected anyway.
During the writing of this, I used:
Work ==== 3 Commodore A500s 21Mb A590 Hard Disk + 2.5Mb ram Commodore A1000 + 2Mb ram Tandon 20Mhz 80386 PC + 40Mb Hard Disk Souped-up JCL Colourpic video frame-grabber PerfectSound sampler Some custom EPROM-reading hardware I built to read the arcade board's roms. Atari 1040ST (yuk) +Various extra drives, disks, etc,etc Lots of coffee

In the PlayStation version, in Act 4, through a specific set of touch and click commands, Rincewind (voiced by Monty Python member Eric Idle) will say "I want to be the first person in a game to say fuck". This appears to be a reference to a humorous eulogy for the late Monty Python member Graham Chapman in 1989. Fellow member John Cleese, the writer of the eulogy, claimed that the spirit of Chapman while writing it acknowledged that Cleese was very proud of himself for allegedly being the first person to say "shit" on British television, but wanted him to one-up it by asking him to be the first person at a British memorial service to say "fuck". Whether he was actually the first to do either of those things is not known, but Eric Idle trying to be the first person in a video game to say "fuck" seems to be his tongue-in-cheek way of trying to one-up Cleese.

There is a hidden message in the game's code that has some letters changed and some words shortened to conceal the message. When revealed, the message reads:
"This game sucks a cock twice over cheap shit can't even come up with a real password screen bullshit cocksucker asshole"
18 minutes after the end screen is displayed, if the console is not reset or turned off, the text changes to "TO BE CONTINUED NINJA GAIDEN II". This signals that the game actually takes place between the events of Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II.
This message isn't displayed in the American version.

If the player tries to enter a code in the game without getting it first, Cartman will appear dressed up as Patriots coach Bill Belichick and will comment the following.
"Hey Tom Brady, do you wanna play the game or do you wanna be known as a smug cheating bitch the rest of your life?" "Okay so I guess you wanna Tom Brady through the whole game, what's the matter? Can't do it on your own?" "Is this fun for you, Tom Brady?" "You broke the rules rules rules"
This is a reference to the South Park season 19 episode "Stunning and Brave".
The protagonist's home in the game is Cafe LeBlanc which is a reference to Maurice Leblanc, author of the Arsene Lupin books which the protagonist's initial persona is based and named after.

If the player names their character "Fuck" (note that the name check is not case-sensitive), the skeleton in the desert will demand three Amulets of Annihilation to board his boat instead of the typical one, citing his distaste of foul language.
During the intro, the Time Washing Machine that the Rabbids use lists key dates of Nintendo and Ubisoft history: *September 23rd 1889: The date that Nintendo was founded. *March 12th 1986: The date that Ubisoft was founded. *September 24th 1988: The date that Ubisoft, Milan was founded.
In Metropolis, if you get through the whole level without beating a single enemy and talk to the Inventor Droid at the end, she'll say "I've Successfully developed a super powerup here Spyro... knock off just a few more enemies and you can be the first ever to use it." This dialogue isn't normally available to see or hear because the power up only requires one enemy to be defeated to work and there are enemy pigs that self destruct when you get close enough to them.
The words COPE and CPU can be found graffitied onto the subway trains in the background of Studiopolis Zone, referencing the same words that can be found in Spring Yard Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog.
The phrase "thx2allgamefans!" can be found written on the Switch Pro Controller's motherboard, just above the right analog stick; the positioning of this message allows it to be easily viewed by holding the right analog stick in the down position and peering through the surrounding socket.
