Final Fantasy VI

Celes was originally meant to be a "conflicted spy" archetype - a spy working for the antagonists, but swayed by the benevolence of the people she was supposed to be spying on, and how nice Locke was to her. She was to be psychologically unstable, like Kefka, due to a similar magic infusion process. Although the "conflicted spy" idea was not used in the final game, the archetype was used for Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII. Celes was Yoshinori Kitase's favorite Final Fantasy VI character from a developer's point of view. Kitase has stated that at first, Celes did not have as much of a role but this changed later in development.

Parts of Cyan's story were supposed to involve an extra character named Angela who was eventually cut from the game. She was a "big sister" archetype and had a take-charge, sultry attitude. She would often flirt with Cyan, who, considering his personality, would always overreact to her. It is unknown if she was an NPC or playable character, but she was probably planned to be playable as she had a whip as a weapon.

One of the minikits in chapter 12 is obtained by using magnetism on the clock tower. Doing so will set the clock to 10:04, and it will be struck by a lightning bolt. This is a reference to Back to the Future, in which the courthouse was struck by lightning at exactly 10:04.

During development, some former and active duty U.S. Navy SEALs fell under government scrutiny for their involvement in the creation of the game. Their contributions as advisers to the game caused them to be placed under investigation by the Department of Defense for potentially releasing classified information regarding how the SEALs operate.

The song "Wintery Mist" from Silent Hill: Homecoming sounds almost identical to "Winter Tundra", only slowed down.

Attachment If an item has an incorrect ID, such as if a modded item has had its corresponding mod removed, it is replaced by a Perfectly Generic Item, which is a green cube. This is a reference to the webcomic Homestuck, in which the main character spawns a "Perfectly Generic Object", which is also a green cube.
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath

Stranger's Wrath creator Lorne Lanning has said that EA sabotaged the game by not marketing it.

Attachment Early in development, Lightning was meant to be a flirtatious character with more sex appeal. To make Lightning a more serious heroine in the vein of previous heroes, Cloud Strife and Squall Leonhart, Fang's character - which was originally a man - was rewritten as a woman, and some of Lightning's traits were transferred to her. Not only this, but her original silver hair color was given to Hope Estheim in favor of pink.

Luigi, Peach, Toad and Wario's voices were changed in the Western releases of the game from those used in the original Japanese version, despite already being in English. It's thought that Nintendo of America felt the original voice clips did not properly represent the characters, or were simply of poor quality. However, the original Japanese voices were later used in the first two Mario Party games in the worldwide releases, as well as Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
Street Fighter II
1
The idea of Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting came about as a result of Capcom USA's James Goddard testing the counterfeit "Rainbow Edition" at an arcade to see if it represented a serious threat. He was initially unimpressed by the poor balance, but Champion Edition "felt like it was underwater" after experiencing the faster pace of the counterfeit.

Attachment There are several different revisions of the game with small but notable changes.
• The earliest versions, released in 1999, required the disc to be in the drive, but the 2001 release removed this requirement.
• The trophies on the player's license for beating each boss go unused in the 2001 release.
• The map on the loading screen in the original release filled the entire screen, and these were gradually changed in subsequent versions, with the map being reduced in size and displayed in the middle of the blue studded background used for menu screens.

Attachment There's a hidden message in the graphics of the US release that reads "Ste & John were ere ok". This refers to Ste Pickford and John Pickford of Software Creations, the game's developer.

The US and JP versions were developed simultaneously, and since the JP version required much more space for the text graphics, there was a lot of blank space in the US tiles, so Ste wrote the hidden message there.
Mass Effect 2

At one point in the game the Shadow Broker will say "You travel with fascinating companions, doctor." This could be a reference to the TV Series "Doctor Who" Where the main character, known as The Doctor, often travels with many companions through time and space.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
1
Attachment There's a teaser poster for "Biohazard 4" outside a movie theater near the Grill 13 diner. "Biohazard" is the Japanese name for the Resident Evil series. At the time Nemesis was released, "Biohazard 4" probably referred to the game that became Devil May Cry, rather than Resident Evil 4.

Attachment In the Ape Escape level Dark Ruins, there are four monkeys that are named Kyle, Stan, Kenny and Cratman, after the main characters of South Park. It's unknown why Cartman is misspelled as Cratman.

Attachment The hidden black Chao egg found within the Egg Carrier has a unique texture in the original version for the Dreamcast. It was blue and black with pink spots. This was probably so that it would fit in better with its surroundings. This was changed in later releases of the game to solid black. Opening it will hatch a regular black Chao with seemingly no special qualities, however.

There are quite a few base potions in the game's code that were left with no method to craft them in 1.9 beta pre-release 3. These potions include: Clear, Diffuse, Artless, Thin, Bungling, Suave, Smooth, Debonair, Charming, Refined, Cordial, Sparkling, Potent, Rank, Acrid, Gross, and Stinky.

While they can still be obtained using commands, they have no effect, and take the appearance of a water bottle.
