Attachment David Bowie's 1974 song (and album) 'Diamond Dogs' was a musical adaption of George Orwell's famous book '1984'.
Hideo Kojima is a known David Bowie fan and in the Metal Gear Solid 5 trailer, it is stated that Big Boss has been in a coma for 9 years; 'Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker' - which precedes the events of MGS5 - was set in November 1974, placing MGS5 in late 1983 or (more probably) 1984, the year of George Orwell's novel, with Big Boss shown to be part of a new squad known as 'Diamond Dogs', a direct reference to the album.
Portal 2
1
Attachment An unused soundfile for the Announcer exists in Portal 2.
He says: "We will attempt to comply with these now non-existent agencies by playing some more smooth jazz."
No smooth jazz will play after that.

However, in the German version, the music can be heard.
Banjo-Kazooie
1
The music played inside the Ant Hill of Mumbo's Mountain is a slowed down version of what was originally intended to be the world's main theme. The original theme was partially inspired by the Baby Elephant Walk tune from the film "Hatari!".

The theme that was used for the world Treasure Trove Cove was also the second version that the game's composer, Grant Kirkhope, had written due to the change of the game from "Project Dream" to "Banjo-Kazooie".

Sonic Rush
1
Hideki Naganuma composed most of the music for Sonic Rush. His songs usually feature heavy sampling (adding short parts of other pieces of audio into a new piece), and Sonic Rush is no exception. An obvious sample is 'Back 2 Back' using the main melody from 'Louie Louie', but some are harder to spot, such as 'Jeh Jeh Rocket' using a bit of audio from African drum music and 'Wrapped in Black' using a speech by Malcolm X.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
1

Luigi's Mansion
1
Before going into the training room, a menu will appear giving the player different controller options. After waiting for a couple of minutes, the music track will change to a funky beat, 19 notes will play, and the original music will then return. These 19 notes are actually Totaka's Song, a song that is hidden in almost every game composer Kazumi Totaka has worked on.

Despite Route 10 being removed from the game, its unique track can still be heard through legitimate means. Visiting Icirrus City during Winter and speaking to the NPC who claims to be the sound designer (located in the ex-Rocket Grunt's house) will change the background music to Route 10's theme.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
1
The DLC Expansion for Skyrim, "Dragonborn", contains many of the music tracks that were previously found in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. This is fitting, seeing as the game is set on the island of Solstheim, in close proximity to the Morrowind region of Tamriel.
Team Fortress 2

Attachment The in-game hat item "The Tavish DeGroot Experience" is a direct reference to Jimi Hendrix. It is named after his band, "The Jimi Hendrix Experience", and is a similar style to the hat that he was often seen wearing. The item's description is also a reference to Hendrix's first single, "Hey Joe", and reads "Hey, Joe, where you going with that sticky launcher in your hand?".
