From 2014 to 2016, The Game Awards featured a "Best Fan Creation" category. The 2014 winner was "Twitch Plays Pokémon" (a social experiment featuring a crowdsourced attempt to play through various Pokémon games), and the 2015 winner was "Portal Stories: Mel" (a modification of Portal 2). During 2016, however, two of the nominees for the category were removed prior to the show's airing: AM2R (an unofficial remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus) and Pokémon Uranium (a fan-made video game based on the Pokémon series). During a stream prior to the event, host Geoff Keighley explained that this was due to the fangames not being legally cleared by Nintendo, who owned the rights to the games they were based on. Additionally, "Best Fan Creation" would end up being the only category to not have its winner (Enderal: The Shards of Order, a conversion mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) announced during the ceremony itself.

Attachment One of the few tracks included from Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze within the soundtrack for both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is "Swinger Flinger". However, actually listening to the track reveals it to instead be the theme for the Bopopolis stage.

This error is not presented in the Japanese versions of these games, where the "Swinger Flinger" track is properly referred to by its Japanese name equivalent to Bopopolis, ふみふみラビリンス (Fumifumi Rabirinsu), or Stomping Labyrinth. In comparison, the actual Swinger Flinger track and stage in the Japanese version of Tropical Freeze is called バインラビリンス (Bain Rabirinsu), or Vine Labyrinth.

On September 11, 2022, several cheat codes were discovered in the game by a user on game wiki The Cutting Room Floor. The list of codes that have known functions prior to December 2023 are as follows:

• On the Options menu, by pressing Circle/Left on the D-Pad/Right on the D-Pad/Circle/Up on the D-Pad/R2, you can unlock a Cheat Menu with basic toggles for Infinite Ammo, Infinite Health, No Chestburst and No Drown. All four of these options have dedicated cheat codes which are listed below:

• L1/L2/Up on the D-Pad/L1/L2/Up on the D-Pad/Circle = Dedicated Infinite Ammo code, can have unlimited ammo with weapons you can have at selected point in the game.
• R1/R2/Down on the D-Pad/R1/R2/Left on the D-Pad/Square = Dedicated Infinite Health code.
• R1/L1/Left on the D-Pad/R1/L1/Square/Down on the D-Pad = Dedicated No Chestburst code.
• R2/L2/Right on the D-Pad/R2/L2/Circle/Down on the D-Pad = Dedicated No Drowning code.

Remaining miscellaneous cheat codes that can be activated include:

• L1/Circle/Square/L1/Down on the D-Pad/Up on the D-Pad/Circle = Have weapons you can have at selected point in the game.
• R1/Square/L2/L1 = Selecting quit warps you to section 0 of selected level.
• R1/Triangle/Square/L1 = Quit functions as a restart.
• Triangle/L1/R1/Square/L1/R1/L1/Square = Press L2 + L1 to display debug information while in-game.

As of December 2023, there are three codes that have unknown functions:

• L1/Triangle/Square/Circle
• Square/Triangle/Square/L1
• L1/Triangle/Square/L1

Alien Resurrection
1
On December 19, 2023, programmer Martin Piper revealed a pair of hidden cheat codes he included in the original release of Alien Resurrection. To execute these codes, you need to go into the game's Options menu and unlock the Cheat Menu with the code Circle/Left on the D-Pad/Right on the D-Pad/Circle/Up on the D-Pad/R2. The cheats Piper revealed include the following:

• A level selection menu can be unlocked in the Options menu right after unlocking the Cheat Menu by pressing R1/Down on the D-Pad/R1/Right on the D-Pad/L1/Up on the D-Pad/L2/Square. If entered correctly, you will hear a "bonk" sound indicating the code has been activated. Re-entering the Cheat Menu will reveal an additional option to re-visit any section in any level in the game.

• The more notable of the two codes Piper revealed is one that allows the Alien Resurrection disc to act as a boot disc to play PlayStation games on any burned CD-R disc without the use of modding. This novelty method works with any PlayStation model (as long as you have something to block the tray disc sensor on newer models so you can swap out the disc with the tray open), and must be done after unlocking the level selection menu (you can save after unlocking this menu so you do not have to unlock it again if you want to perform the disc swap trick). Once that is unlocked, go back to the Options menu and enter the code Left on the D-Pad/Up on the D-Pad/Right on the D-Pad/Down on the D-Pad/Right on the D-Pad/Up on the D-Pad/Left on the D-Pad/Square/Triangle/Square/Triangle/L1. The "bonk" sound will again be heard if the code is activated. Next, go back to the Cheat Menu and set the level selection to Level 6 and Section 1. Then while highlighting Section 1, hold down L1 (Note: it's imperative to keep holding down L1 for the remainder of this method) and press X. The screen will turn black and the Alien Resurrection disc will stop spinning, at which point you can swap out the disc with a burned CD-R disc of any PlayStation game you desire. While still holding L1, hold Square and Triangle, and then release all three buttons to boot the burned CD-R game.

When asked by YouTube channel Modern Vintage Gamer, Piper revealed that the latter cheat code had never been disclosed to Sony when the game was sent in for certification as Sony would have immediately sent the game back and forced the developers to remove it since it acted as a backdoor for playing pirated games, and he believed that no other developers who worked on the game were made aware of it either. In a YouTube comment, he explained that he only revealed the codes now because it had been so long since the game's release and he did not want to hold onto the secret for the rest of his life. According to him, the intent of the feature stemmed from Alien Resurrection potentially being planned as a multi-disc game, with the feature being implemented as a test to see if discs could be changed without resetting the PlayStation. Unlike standard multi-disc games that function with the PlayStation's built-in ability to swap out discs through an API call to maintain memory data without fully resetting the console, Alien Resurrection has code that loads an .exe file on any burned CD-R disc you swap it out with to start that new game up while bypassing the PlayStation's anti-piracy protection check.

Attachment Hidden in the archive LOAD00.PVM, there is a suggestive photo of Japanese actress/gravure idol Yūka that acts as an unused loading screen, and was likely a placeholder image that the developers forgot to remove. This was first discovered during the development of the game's English fan translation, which released in 2021.

According to a court document leaked during Epic Games' lawsuit with Apple, Samus Aran from the Metroid franchise was considered for a possible guest playable character in Fortnite, but was ultimately rejected by Nintendo. Executive Saxs Persson would later reveal that Epic has tried to negotiate with Nintendo several times in the past to include their characters in the game, but have continuously fallen through, stating:

"I don't know what the word for, like, making diamonds is."

While never outright stated, it's commonly believed that Nintendo's reluctance is at least in part due to their status as a "family-friendly" company, and feared any sort of instance that would reflect badly on the company (i.e. getting shot, performing certain gestures, and appearing on rival platforms).

AI: The Somnium Files
1
Attachment In AI: The Somnium Files, during the chapter PSYNCIN' IN THE SUSTaiN, Aiba can interact with a wall of signatures and examine 3 specific autographs marked as "Left," "Middle," or "Right." Selecting these options give the following:

• Left - For 99 seconds, an autograph from someone named "Hongo" is shown. Aiba notes that she can't "picture the face" and a jingle plays.
• Middle - For 78 seconds, an autograph from someone named "Enoshima" is shown, featuring drawings of a black bear and a white bear. Aiba remarks that she "hopes" to find out who that is, and a second jingle plays.
• Right - For 12 seconds, an autograph from someone named "Mikimoto" is shown. Aiba describes him as "a photographer with some sort of beard like a mountain man" and a third jingle plays.

All 3 of these options are references to the games Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, and Kamaitachi no Yoru (renamed Banshee's Last Cry in the iOS English release). These games were all developed by Chunsoft or Spike (before the merger), and the jingles used are audio themes used in each game. These specific references are about Spoiler:the respective villains of each of those games, and doing all 3 of these options unlocks the achievement "Crazy Awful Customers."

999 - Spoiler:References Gentaro Hongou, nicknamed Ace, the antagonist of the First Nonary Game. He has prosopagnosia, a disorder that prevents someone from recognizing faces. The 99 seconds references the title of the game, shortened to 999.
Danganronpa - Spoiler:References Junko Enoshima, the mastermind of the "Killing School Life" death game who controls Monokuma. She holds the title "Ultimate Despair," and her goal is to abolish "Hope." The 78 seconds references her class at Hope's Peak Academy, Class 78.
KnY/BLC - Spoiler:References Yosuke Mikimoto (named Jonas Faberge in the iOS English release), the culprit of the murders at the skiing lodge. His disguise involves wearing a fake beard to appear as a mountaineering photographer. The 12 seconds references the 12 people staying at the skiing lodge, or perhaps the 12 potential victims that Mikimoto can kill in bad endings.

Dan Slott, a comic book writer best known for his work on Marvel Comics such as "The Amazing Spider-Man", "Fantastic Four", and "Silver Surfer", wrote for two issues of Archie's "Sonic Super Special" series as part of its "Zone Wars" storyline. Despite these being his only works for the comic, he did make one notable contribution: Zonic the Zone Cop, an alternate reality version of Sonic who monitored all realities in order to maintain balance across the various Zones, though allowing other people to appear in other Zones when they are needed. In November 2022, in response to various fan questions about Zonic, Slott noted that he was willing to collaborate with Sega to bring him back, and had no protective hang-ups over the character unlike an unspecified Sonic creator who was "super protective of all the characters he's created over the years to the point where SEGA doesn't want to use ANY of them in other media" (likely referring to legal issues surrounding former writer Ken Penders).

Attachment Predating Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs, the Triceratops is notably the first ever prehistoric creature included in the Zoo Tycoon series as a hidden unlockable within the first base game. Players could unlock it as an adoptable animal by completing the "Breeding the Panda" scenario, but it could also be unlocked earlier by renaming an exhibit to "Cretaceous Corral".

Notably, with the installation of the aforementioned Dinosaur Digs expansion pack, the Triceratops' sprite is modified to be much smaller in size and duller in color; it also now functions like the other dinosaurs, such as now requiring to be hatched out of an egg and be taken care of by a scientist (as opposed to a zookeeper), and will break out of all fences from the base Zoo Tycoon game.

Attachment One of the "Ice Age" (aka Pleistocene) era prehistoric creatures introduced in Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs is the "Giant Tortoise". In real life, as mentioned in its in-game description, its name is Meiolania.

Strangely enough, Dinosaur Digs depicts the Giant Tortoise as a tundra-dwelling reptile, perhaps to give it parity with its fellow Pleistocene/"Ice Age" animals such as the Woolly Mammoth, Sabre-Tooth Tiger (aka Smilodon) and Woolly Rhino, that all share the Tundra biome. In real life, the Meiolania actually lived in warmer, sub-tropical habitats such as prehistoric Australia.

Attachment One of the dinosaurs introduced in Zoo Tycoon's first expansion pack, Dinosaur Digs, is the Caudipteryx, a small bird-like dinosaur from Asia. In-game, it is listed as hailing from the Jurassic era, and it's even one of the dinosaurs the player is required to adopt in the "Jurassic Zoo" scenario, which hence its title, requires utilizing all of the game's Jurassic era dinosaurs to win. This is an error on Blue Fang's part, as the Caudipteryx actually hailed from the early Cretaceous period.

The report singled out Stefan Eriksson, a prominent figure in the console's development, as the leader of the mafia until he became involved with the Gizmondo, and having received at least 2 prison sentences beforehand. On the same month that the Gizmondo was discontinued in Feburary 2006, Eriksson crashed a Ferrari in California so hard that it tore in half, with the investigation into the crash landing Eriksson behind bars again, and eventually deporting him back to Sweden to face repercussions for additional crimes committed there.
