Yogi Bear: Great Balloon Blast
subdirectory_arrow_right Dexter's Laboratory (Franchise)
1
Attachment Yogi Bear: Great Balloon Blast contains a fully functional unused character in the form of a duo of Dexter and Dee Dee from Dexter's Laboratory, a Hanna-Barbera cartoon that was still airing at the time. It is unknown if this is a remnant of a scrapped Dexter's Laboratory version of Pop'n Pop, much like Dexter's Laboratory: Robot Rampage was for Elevator Action EX, or a scrapped plan to make the game a Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network crossover game.
Yoshi
2
Attachment The Game Boy version of Yoshi has an unused Bullet Bill piece. It is not present in the NES version.
Game & Watch Gallery 3
3
Attachment Game & Watch Gallery 3 has a crude unused placeholder title screen with Wiggler on it. This already unused piece of content itself has unused sprites of its own that don't show up when the screen is activated - including Fly Guys, flowers, a crocodile, sleeping men, and - very morbidly - Mario and Luigi roasting a whole rotisserie Pikachu.
Game & Watch Gallery 2
2
Attachment Inside the files of Game & Watch Gallery 2, there are graphics for an unused Peach version of Modern Ball to go alongside the light blue Yoshi, Mario, Wario, and Bowser versions.
Star Fox Adventures
subdirectory_arrow_right Dinosaur Planet (Game)
1
Attachment One of the most notable cuts in terms of characters going from Dinosaur Planet to Star Fox Adventures was the character of Randorn the Wizard.

Randorn, along with his two children Sabre and Krystal (biological and adopted respectively), all came from a planet named Animus that comprised of two warring tribes: the Wolvens (that Randorn and Sabre belonged to) and the Vixons (which Krystal belonged to). As the leader of the Wolvens, Randorn had another older son (thus Sabre's older brother) that he sent into battle against the Vixons, only for him to end up killed. Overwhelmed with grief and guilt, Randorn abandoned his tribe and Sabre, and proceeded to go on a murderous rampage, destroying any and all Vixon tribes he came across with his magic.

That was, until he came across an orphaned six year Vixon child. Realizing the monster he became, and also feeling guilt about killing her parents, he adopted the child and named her Krystal, raising her as his own daughter. After several years of exploring the woods together, Randorn and Krystal would eventually come across a hidden temple with a technological device known as the "communication chamber", and from there they received an SOS from the King EarthWalker from a world known as Dinosaur Planet, asking for their help against General Scales and the SharpClaw who have begun to take over the planet. Wishing to atone for his past transgressions, Randorn ordered Krystal to find his son Sabre and then jumped into the swirling vortex that teleported him to Dinosaur Planet, where he battled General Scales only to get mortally wounded, now only barely being kept alive by the magical energies of Warlock Mountain. He leaves Sabre and Krystal behind a message, saying that they must come to Dinosaur Planet and rescue Prince Tricky of the EarthWalkers and Princess Kyte of the CloudRunners from the SharpClaw, who plan on making their respective tribes fight and blame each other.

For the rest of the game, he would reside at Warlock Mountain, and the player would visit him every time they had to return with a Krazoa spirit, sometimes giving advice and also magic energy in case the player is running out. According to the leaked condensed story, the player would eventually have to make a choice to save the dying Randorn by planting MoonSeeds in special locations. If they do, he'd be brought back to health and have a "special surprise" for Sabre and Krystal. There doesn't seem to be any sign of this feature in the leaked December 2000 build of Dinosaur Planet, possibly indicating that this was scrapped.

The aformentioned December 2000 Dinosaur Planet build, which already was beginning to incorporate Fox McCloud as a replacement for Sabre into the game, suggests that Rare actually at least experimented with keeping Randorn in the game even with the new focus on Star Fox, down to creating new voice overs and rewriting the dialogue to suggest that Randorn was previously friends with the McClouds, even expressing guilt over not going along with the original Star Fox team to their investigation of Venom that led to James' death at the hands of Andross and Pigma (Randorn even directly mentions the latter, claiming that he suspected he was a traitor all along).

Unfortunately, Randorn would end up being removed entirely in the final Star Fox Adventures game.

Arthur! Ready to Race
1
There are unused voice clips in the files of Arthur! Ready to Race for Muffy Crosswire, Binky Barnes, and Arthur's dog Pal, implying that they were intended to be playable racers at some point in the game's development.
Super Mario 64
4
Attachment In the castle courtyard in Super Mario 64, there is a plaque to a power star with an illegible name written below, often interpreted as either "Eternal Star" or "L is Real 2401" - with the latter being more popular for how it could be seen as a cryptic hint towards unlocking Luigi.

In a poetic coincidence, the source code leak that revealed Luigi's scrapped model would be found 24 years and 1 month after Super Mario 64's release.
Knuckles' Chaotix
subdirectory_arrow_right Sonic The Hedgehog (Franchise)
1
Attachment Dr. Starline the Platypus from the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series is inspired by a glitch character from Knuckles' Chaotix - a silver, red and charcoal Knuckles recolor, known by fans as "Wechnia", but by the game itself as "**********", seemingly based on unused data for Tails. Starline's color scheme is taken directly from Wechnia, his name is a literal take on the name "**********", (or "star-line") the black streak in his fur resembles the red streaks all over Wechnia's fur, and the choice of a platypus seems to be inspired by how certain Wechnia sprites would make the bottom of his muzzle yellow and loosely resemble shading for the underside of a flat bill, alongside platypi being Australian like echidnas.

Plok
1
Attachment Plok! was at one point going to feature an items shop, which would've been run by an anime-styled character named Suki. While the character wasn't used, Plok creators John and Ste Pickford kept her in mind for future installments that never came to be, but Ste was ultimately happy Suki never appeared in a Plok game as he felt that Western attempts to replicate the stylings of anime rarely turned out well.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2
1
During the prerelease of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, a set of placeholder pages were found on the game's website relating to different characters. Most notable of these pages was one for Helga, a character who was in the first Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and hadn't been seen in All-Star Brawl 2 marketing materials or leaks at that point - this led a lot of fans to believe that Helga would be returning. Ultimately, she would only be a background cameo on the Aquarium stage.
Nicktoons MLB
subdirectory_arrow_right Rocko's Modern Life (Franchise)
1
Rocko from Rocko's Modern Life was intended to appear as a playable character in Nicktoons MLB but was scrapped for unknown reasons, with the only remnants of his appearance being his skeleton and a small black square labeled as his texture. Rocko's Modern Life is the only Nickelodeon show without a playable character to be referenced in the opening copyright credits.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
1
Alongside Garfield, Rocksteady from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was originally going to be one of the two post-launch playable fighters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl - notably without his partner-in-crime Bebop, much like Michelangelo and Leonardo's inclusion without Raphael and Donatello. He was ultimately replaced by Shredder, and all that remained of his inclusion at launch was a placeholder stock image and the codename "hunter".

Rocksteady would eventually become playable in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
1
Despite being playable in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Gilbert, Anna, Cyril, Hanneman, and Alois all have recruitment flags (the internal value which tells the game if the unit is in your army or not). They lack any skills or data assigned to them however and trying to deploy these units or use them in battle with crash the game.

Interestingly, Gibert is not referred to by his real name nor is he sorted to be with Kingdom characters despite his role in the Three Hopes story. However Alois is always sorted to be next to Jeralt and Byleth in the menu, rather than with the Church like in Three Houses.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
1
Attachment Within the game, there exists a model of a generic Hero class found in the training grounds in the later half of the game, and class data for an unused Hero class exists within the game that can be loaded in.

It uses the generic attacks of the 'Mercenary' Class but lacks the animations for it's class action despite having 2 meters for it, suggesting that it was meant to be a promotion for the class rather than Swordmaster being the sole promotion to Mercenary.

War Monk, Dark Flier, and Valkyrie also exist within the game's code, but they're in an extremely unfinished state as they lack a Sprite, Model, Text, and any functional abilities. They do however have Class Stat bonuses assigned to them, hinting that at one point they were considered to be brought back.

Note: it is speculated due to Holst's in-game lore and his character design that he was originally designed to canonically be in the Hero class and not the Swordmaster class like he is in the final game, this is however just speculation.
Pac-Man World Rally
subdirectory_arrow_right Dig Dug (Collection)
1
Attachment Pac-Man World Rally was originally going to be based on the works of famed psychedelic hot rod cartoonist Stanley Mouse. Fygar's kart is a leftover from this version of the project, hence why it doesn't fit the aesthetic style of the other karts and isn't directly based on the Dig Dug franchise
Pac-Man World Rally
subdirectory_arrow_right Snoopy vs. The Red Baron (Game), Peanuts (Franchise)
1
Attachment Inside the prototype Xbox version of Pac-Man World Rally, files pertaining to Snoopy from Peanuts and a vehicle for him can be found. While the initial discovery of these files left a lot of mystery over whether they were leftovers from another project or a scrapped crossover, a concept image from World Rally would emerge shortly after revealing Snoopy was indeed planned as a crossover racer.

Smart Bomb Interactive, the developers of Pac-Man World Rally, worked on the game Snoopy vs. the Red Baron around the same time, and a few shared files from that game including placeholder cutscene dialogue can also be found in Pac-Man World Rally's data.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
subdirectory_arrow_right Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 (Game)
1
Attachment In the reveal trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, a set of gameplay footage from the first installment is shown. This is notable for two reasons, one being that the footage shows off multiple characters not featured in the second game, and that one scene shows a beta version of the Wild Waterfall stage with a smaller waterfall and different colors for the Thornberrys' ComVee. This would lead to a theory that the Wild Waterfall footage was taken from NASB 2 and accidentally inserted into the NASB 1 section of the trailer, which if true would confirm that Lincoln Loud and Leonardo were returning.

This theory was quite easily debunked by Lincoln and Leonardo using their models from the first All-Star Brawl while everyone else got revised models, and a KO explosion effect featured in the snippet being different from one shown later in the trailer. Nigel Thornberry's character showcase would later show off a new Wild Thornberrys stage in place of Wild Waterfall, which was shortly followed by a leak showing Lincoln as an NPC cameo on the Loud Castle stage.

Jingle Brawl
subdirectory_arrow_right Planet Sheen (Franchise)
3
In Super Fall Brawl, one of the many reskins of Jingle Brawl, the new character was intended to be Sheen Estevez from Jimmy Neutron, in promotion for his then-new spin-off series Planet Sheen. However, Sheen was not coded correctly, making him near-impossible to beat in a fight. The game's second update would remove Sheen and his stage completely, and he would never be added back in, making Fall Brawl the only Super Brawl game without any new combatants. Sheen would return in Super Brawl 2, though the House of Pain stage, based on the first episode of Planet Sheen, would be swapped for a Zeenu stage generally based on Planet Sheen instead of a single episode.
Judgment
1
Attachment In the game files exists a beta version of protagonist Takayuki Yagami's design. This design was presumably an alternate plan in case the licensing agreement with Takura Kimura, the actor whose face inspired Yagami's design, runs out, or he gets involved in any kind of controversy.
Hitman 2
1
An unused outfit for a "High-Profile DJ" can be found in the files for the Mumbai mission "Chasing a Ghost". It's speculated that a DJ may have been a part of Dawood Rangan's film shoot, but was cut from the final game for unknown reasons.

Interestingly, the outfit also has unique dialogue attached to it (i.e. when civilians go past 47 and comment on his clothes), which were later reincorporated for Berlin's DJ Disguise in Hitman 3.
