Pikmin 3
1
Nintendo experimented with the possibility of putting Pikmin 3 on a handheld system like the DS and 3DS, but the gameplay boiled down to micro-management on the touch screen and didn't feel like a Pikmin game.
Pikmin 3
1
Attachment When the game's characters were just starting to be released, there were to be 4 playable characters, A (Which became Alph), B (Which became Brittany), C (Which became Charlie), and D. Nobody currently knows what happened to character D, but it's speculated that because the crew's ship is named the Drake, many aspects of Character D were given to the ship.
Grand Theft Auto III
1
Attachment An early sketch of Liberty City showed that many different areas were changed during development. Some changes include the airport being in Staunton, the Callahan Bridge not existing, and there were many more roads in Shoreside Vale.
Burnout
1
Attachment Early pictures and trailers of the game suggest that the first car they made was the Venom SX, which was later named Sports Coupe.
Pikmin 2
1
The game's files list the captain's folders as "orima" (Olimar), "orima3" (Louie), and "syatyou" (The President). The captain "orima2" was removed and was speculated to be Olimar's son.
Ristar
1
Attachment The character of Ristar started out as an early concept for Sonic the Hedgehog. The character was going to be a rabbit that could grab the environment and enemies with his ears. As the game play got faster and faster, the character was shelved and replaced with Sonic. The character was later picked up to be in a game called "Feel" before being changed into a shooting star and both the game and the character's name were changed to Ristar.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
1
In the strategy guide, pictures of a white Leone Sentinel can be seen. This is not available in the final game.
Earthworm Jim 3D
1
Evil the Cat was slated to appear as the boss of the "Fear" level world but was cut and replaced with Professor Monkey-For-A-Head. Despite this, his image appears on records in "Boogie Nights of the Living Dead" and is even advertised on a few of the game boxes. Additionally, Evil Jim, Earthworm Jim's evil twin from the TV series, was also reportedly a part of the game before being cut.
ClayFighter 63 1/3
1
Attachment There was originally going to be one more character which went by the name 'Hobo Cop' (a pun on the movie RoboCop) who was decorated with pots and trash can lids. For one reason or another, the character was dropped.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
1
By using a Game Genie on the Genesis, the player can use Chameleon. He is clearly unfinished as he has no combos, special moves, or fatalities, uses Scorpion's sprites (with the sprite changing to Rain's when a decapitation fatality was performed on him), and the announcer does not say his name. This hints that he was planned to be put in the game before he was debuted in Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
Grand Theft Auto III
1
There are strings of unused text that say:
"Get outta here! You're perfectly healthy."
"Healthcare costs."
"I'll just fix you up."
"That will be $250."
This possibly suggests that hospitals at one point may've been enterable to get healed.
Super Mario Sunshine
1
Attachment Some have speculated that human NPCs were to be in the game. This is because a human girl can be seen in the Space World 2001 trailer, but only for a fraction of a second.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
1
It was originally planned for the Great Fairy to be blue and white. The beta model can be found in the game's data.
Super Mario World
1
The game originally had a flying cage carried by four winged creatures. Mario would start already in the cage and with an autoscroll script, the cage would move along the level. Although the cage can be found in the code, the graphics for it are incomplete. The cage is likely left over from the 'SNES Test Program'.
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
1
The final level was going to have a Clank traversal segment to help Ratchet go further into the level, and would reintroduce the lifter bot for a few more puzzles. However due to memory restraints and time, the segment was scraped and the lifter bot was reduced to an only one time use in the first Clank segment.
Super Mario 64
1
Attachment There is an unused animated Yoshi egg texture in the game's data, suggesting that Yoshi was going to play a bigger role in the game, similar to Super Mario World.
Doom
1
In 1995, it was estimated that Doom was installed on to more computers than Microsoft's own Windows 95. This led Bill Gates to briefly consider buying id Software, so they could have the rights to the Doom name. This also led to the development of a Windows 95 port of the game to promote the operating system as a gaming platform.
EarthBound
1
Attachment Early previews of EarthBound show that the game's localizers had considered calling Giygas "The Geek".
Super Mario Sunshine
1
Attachment There is an unused music track in the game of the Noki Bay theme, as if you were riding Yoshi, even though Yoshi is not in Noki Bay. Many have speculated this is because Yoshi was going to be in the level, but was removed.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
1
Attachment After the big bar fight in the beginning of the game, if you walk over to the other side of the bar instead of following Sully, you can find a newspaper that reads, "Scientists are still struggling to understand deadly fungus." This is referencing the fungal infection in the game "The Last of Us." This easter egg was planned to be removed by the development team before the game was shipped (as they were not planning to reveal the game until much later) but forgot about it and released the game with the easter egg still in.
