Pokémon HeartGold Version
subdirectory_arrow_right Pokémon SoulSilver Version (Game)
2
Attachment The release of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Version got delayed for Flanders (the Dutch-speaking area of Belgium) and the Netherlands. The reason was because of a save data bug found in English copies of Pokémon HeartGold meant for those two regions. The bug caused certain Pokémon HeartGold copies to not be able to read its save data, even when there was none - rendering the game unplayable.

The game released eventually on April 2nd, 2010 - one week later than the pan European release date (March 26th, 2010).

Gothic
1
In the German version of Gothic, during Chapter 2 of the story you can find members of the German rock band In Extremo playing live in the old camp, performing an acoustic version of their interpretation of the Swedish folk song "Herr Mannelig" (Mister Mannelig). They are in the files for other versions of the base game and in the files for Gothic II's Night of the Raven expansion, but are never used outside of modding due to copyright issues. This cameo was intended to be cross-promotion for the band.
Chibi-Robo!
1
Attachment While the game's colorful toy cast is mostly comprised of fictional properties, two real, Bandai-owned toy series make a cameo appearance within the game. These two toys are a Tamagotchi digital pet and a Primopuel doll respectively. Both are initially found inside hidden treasure chests and can later be interacted with by Chibi-Robo.

Street Fighter 6
2
On a Street Fighter 6 developer Q&A stream, the team confirmed that the idea of having JP using Bartitsu (mistankenly refered to as Baritsu) was inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Said martial art's apparences in Holmes stories inspired the staff to create a character that fought using a cane.
Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
1
Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind was censored during the process of obtaining a Nintendo Seal of Approval, with two known instances being the removal of a cartoonish beheading death animation, and a catnip hazard which resembled marijuana and was replaced with banana peels.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
1
Attachment One of the playable racers in the game is the Iron Checkpoint Crate, which was added in response to a popular meme post on the r/CrashBandicoot subreddit.
Sonic Pinball Party
2
This game features numerous references to other series developed by Sonic Team, primarily Sonic, NiGHTS into Dreams, and Samba de Amigo, with characters from Burning Rangers, Phantasy Star Online, and ChuChu Rocket! also being referenced. When asked if this was meant to imply that all these franchises existed in the same universe, Ian Flynn clarified that the events of the game are considered non-canon.
Meme Run
3
Attachment While most of the memes featured in Meme Run are well-known mainstream memes that were already quite storied by the time of the game's release, one meme included in the game is much more obscure - that being "Bigley", a mosquito-like parody of Ridley from the Metroid series meant to mock fierce fandom debates over whether the latter character was "too big" to feasibly include in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. This character was hugely popular within the Miiverse community, and was often considered a mascot for the community during its heyday, however, Meme Run and its sequel Bigley's Revenge were the only footprint Bigley managed to impart outside of the Miiverse community, with the meme being so obscure that its article was rejected from Know Your Meme.
Freaky Flyers
2
Attachment The boxart for the GameCube version of the game was slightly censored, changing the color of Traci Torpedoes' jacket and decreasing her breast size to make them noticeably less prominent.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream

The name of Straynap's ice cream shop, 13 Ice, is a reference to the real-life ice cream chain Baskin-Robbins, who are not only famous for their "31 flavors" slogan, but are also known as "31 Ice Cream" in Japan.
Bubsy 2
1
The late Michael Berlyn, who created Bubsy, has claimed that the designer of Bubsy 2, Cyndi Kirkpatrick, vehemently hated Bubsy to the point of sticking pencils through the heads of rare promotional Bubsy dolls, hanging them from nooses and covering them in fake blood. Berlyn claimed this hatred affected the quality of the final game for him in that "the art wasn't quite right, the feeling wasn't quite right, and they did some weird things with the secondary characters, and the biplanes, you know, nothing really worked for me."

Drill Dozer
1
The protagonist of Drill Dozer, Jill, is a heroic burglar who breaks into museums and fights against police officers. This detail is not mentioned in any of the game's US promotional materials, with a press release for the game simply calling Jill "not a bad girl" and claiming she destroys so many things because "she just has some issues", likely to avoid controversy.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Attachment The inclusion of Hugh Neutron in the game as DLC, particularly instead of his son and series main protagonist Jimmy Neutron, was a response to an ironic internet campaign to get the character in the game known as "Hugh Nation", led by Hugh voice actor Mark DeCarlo and YouTubers The Superverse and Uncle Al, following Hugh trending on Twitter due to memes related to the game's reveal. When Hugh performs his strafe taunt in the game, he can say the voice lines "Hello internet!", "Thank you internet!" and "Hugh Nation!", referencing this push. The showcase for Hugh's moveset, which was aired at EVO 2022, mentions Hugh being included as a "thank you" to the devoted NASB community.
Ghost of Tsushima

Attachment In the Iki Island expansion, there is a special God of War-themed armor set that can be obtained at the Shrine of Ash. At the shrine, there is a scroll containing a poem hinting at how to do so. Spoiler:The player must equip the Sakai Clan armor and perform the action for unsheathing their sword in front of the shrine to obtain it.

There is also an ash tree with a golden hand print planted near the shrine, a direct reference to the intro for God of War.

Laying along the base of the statue are piles of chains, these are a reference to the chains that hang from the hilts of one of Kratos signature weapons, The Blades of Chaos.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Attachment At one point in the game's development, SpongeBob's strong dash attack was intended to involve him running with scissors. This was vetoed by Nickelodeon, with community manager Thaddeus Crews suggesting that Nickelodeon may not have wanted a character many children view as a role model partaking in an easily-imitable dangerous activity. The scissors exist in the game files, attached to SpongeBob's model, but in an untextured form with no bones for snipping.

In the final game, SpongeBob's strong dash attack was a slip and fall based on a single frame from the episode "Krabs à la Mode" that became a meme.
