On April 25th 2017, the Temple Hideout stage was removed as it featured a Muslim prayer voice sample from an audio collection known as "Voice Spectral: Volume one", which some argued did not fit the stage, a Buddhist temple. Capcom decided to temporarily remove the stage and publish it again on May 31st 2017 with a different theme.

If the player hits a Power Sneakers item box in any of the Sonic games, a higher-pitched version of the theme is played and not the usual sped up version. This is due to inaccurate emulation of the music, where instead of just the tempo increasing, the true speed -- and therefore pitch -- also increases.

According to an interview with the game's composers Teruhiko Nakagawa and Kenichi Tokoi, both actually went to Rio itself where the 2016 Olympic Games took place in order to get a Brazilian feel for the game's music. After a Brazilian percussionist commented that their music had a Cuban rhythm to it, both composers realized they "didn’t have a clue what samba is supposed to feel like." As a result, they recorded in Brazil two weeks before the annual Rio Carnival took place.
